Hey Kristin:

Still reading and enjoying. I like the bit about your sore legs - I pulled my calf muscle the other day playing tennis and hobbled about for a while.

Kris, I know exactly where you are coming from. I have a (US-size) 7.5 EE foot, high instep, myself, and so can't just go to Payless and pick up any old pair of shoes. So, for most of my life, i had one or two pairs of sneakers at a time, maybe one pair of (usually very plain) dress shoes, and one pair of casual shoes (deck shoes, flats, or the like). Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately) I find it easier to find wider shoes now, and tend to buy two pairs (usually different styles) when I find a brand/maker that fits my feet. So much so, that I think I've finally developed a shoe fetish. Last summer (or was it the summer before?) I found a great pair of casual sandals, which I wore almost every day last summer. Since this happens every time I find a comfy pair of sandals, I have a friend in the office who has taken it upon herself to let me know when the sandals have become too worn out for work. Doesn't mean I don't still wear them on the weekends, of course, even if they are practically falling apart.

So if I can help in any way (maybe shipping you some shoes from the US?), just let me know!

Hi, Kris. Funny and interesting as usual. While I haven't been skiing in a few years, I loved spring skiing. The best time was when it was quit warm, 40's, maybe even 50's. The best part was watching young guys skiing in shorts, through puddles, and then falling over because the watr slowed them down so much. I bet the melted water was only in the upper 30's! It was just such a great sight! I also remeber one occassion, might have been in Utah (not sure thou), where it was in the lower 40's at the bottom, but because of high winds up at the top, the temperture dropped at least 15 degrees on the way up, so we spent the day putting on layers on the chair lift during the ride up and taking them back off as we skied down, nd repeting the process all day. I think it was warm enough at the middle base that we could sit outside comfortably for lunch. And I do remember those times when I wasn't sure the next morning if I'd be able to ski at all.

Sounds like you're still having a good time in Japan. Glad to hear it. I've changed my email, and have better home access to the internet, so I'll be better able to keep up with your blog. If I haven't said it before, you might want to preserve this, and let a wider audience have access - I personnally think this account is wonderful!

Colin Firth - Yes!

Anne made me watch the first episode of that a few years ago after I lost a bet. Being a guy, it was hard to admit that I was enjoying a Jane Austen story, but dog-gone-it, it was great and I let her make me watch the entire mini-series! I even sat through Sense and Sensibility afterward and (secretly) enjoyed that too. But then I made her watch a couple "guy flicks" to bring my testosterone levels back into balance.

I have not seen any of the titles you mention, except for Arthur and it has been a really long time since I've seen that one - I'll have to see it again.

We just watched "3 days of the Condor" again - delightful Bob Redford movie which has in the opening sequence a shot of Redford driving a moped through NYC traffic.

We also just finished viewing the first three seasons of the BBC program from the 70s called "Good Neighbors" aka "The Good Life". Not too long ago we watched "The Fall & Rise of Reginald Perrin" another great 70s BBC sitcom.

In search of more Leonard Rossiter (Reggie Perrin) we watched a wierd 80s movie called "Water" - made by George Harrison's movie company. A good movie if you are in the mood for some action by the likes of Michael Caine and JJ Walker.

Speaking of Colin Firth - we also watched recently "Love Actually" which has a quite good story line with Mr. Firth. We particularly enjoy it when the word "Wisconsin" is uttered in this film.

The BBC Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite movies (helps being based on my favorite book).

Colin Forth Yes!

The more recent version with Keira Knightly is pretty good, though the very end is ridiculously silly.

Thanks for introducting me to Jane Austen.

Gwen
